Numina
Innate supernatural powers possessed by rare individuals — born of no training and no study, used intuitively at will.
Overview
Magic is usually held by those who practice the mystic arts, but there are exceptions. Sometimes rare individuals possess powers that have nothing to do with experience or training: women who can fly, children who can see the future, psychics who can read minds, little boys who can speak to snakes.
Among mystics, these powers are collectively known as numina, and those who possess them are doomed to lead exciting lives.
Using Numina
Mechanically, numina are powers a gifted individual may intuitively use at will. If you want to create a superhero (or villain) with some specific “power,” these are the rules.
Improving these powers with time and practice may be possible at the narrator's discretion, but they are usually static. Some numina are overt and cause a manifestation, while others are subtle and involve innate talent.
No attempt has been made to balance these powers relative to standard classes and archetypes. Numina exist for character flavor — not parity at the table.
The source text references “the most common examples” of numina but the specific list is not reproduced here. Consult the printed reference for the full catalog of overt and subtle powers.
